Out of the mouths of...er...86 year olds?

I’ve called my Grandma and Grandpa every Sunday since I moved to Arkansas six years ago. We talk about all the things we did over the past week, such as what we made for dinner, how the weather was or what new sites they discovered on their daily “drives”.

My Grandpa lost his eyesight about ten years ago, so my Grandma has mostly been taking care of him and recently he went into a nursing home. She hasn’t done much with her friends, but finally a couple of women that she used to work with talked her into going with them to visit a friend who bought a new home.

“The house was as big as a castle, Kate!” She said as she recalled her trip to Provo. I know that some of the homes in Provo are large and beautiful, but I was just excited that she got to go with the girls and get out of the house for a change!

“It has six bedrooms and an elevator in there! It took about 20 minutes just to tour the whole house! Her refrigerator went from floor to ceiling, and her bed is really tall. I’d need a step stool to get into that bed!”

I asked, “What does her husband do?”

“I don’t know!” She said. “But I bet that house had to cost a hundred thousand dollars!”…. I tried not to giggle. I didn’t try to correct her way of thinking. I just marveled in the innocence of this wonderful woman. I love her so much and I’m so grateful to have her as my Grandma!
